Helpful Tips for preparing your screen print orders
Don’t print over seams, pockets, or zippers
The best surface for screen printing is as flat as possible. If we print your design over an inconsistent surface it could create unexpected results and the quality of the final product would be uneven.
Large prints may not work with certain garments
Smaller garments such as tank tops, v-necks, or girl sized tees don’t work well with large prints. Tanks tops are typically cut low at the neckline forcing the printer to print the design extra low on the tank to avoid seams.V-necks are sometimes cut extra low as well and can cut into the design. Girls tees are cut smaller than regular tees and occassionaly cannot accommodate the large screen print. We cannot stretch the garment to try to make it work, this would cause an uneven print.
Ribbed Garments and double lined apparel is not recommended.
Due to the uneven surface of the ribbed material it is not possible to get an even print.
Double lined apparel can only receive 1 color consistently. After the first color is applied, the drying process in between layers can cause the fabric to shift creating a misaligned final print.
Some colors are affected by the color of the garments
Lighter ink colors may be affected by more intense clothing colors. It could result in “bleed through” of the underlying tone. Ask us about which colors to avoid if your design consists primarily of lighter colors such as white or yellow.
Most tri-blends have rayon in them which is very susceptible to burning during the drying process in between layers (heat is applied with a “flash unit”). To avoid this, we recommend not using an underbase; this will give the shirt a vintage look which is what the tri-blends were intended for. When going this route, we highly recommend a press proof so you know exactly what you’re getting and there are no surprises for you or Aztec.
Ask for a Press Proof
If you’d like to sign off on the first print before we go forward please schedule a press proof appointment with your account representative. Press proofs are highly encouraged, especially if you have a specific color, position, or any other specialty print we may be doing for you. Press proofs are highly time sensitive, usually a 15-30 minute window, and if missed can delay the production of your product. Please be on time or on call if you have an appointment scheduled.
